GP2: Conflict - Application

GP2: Conflict - Application

Overview In any play, it is important to know what you are fighting for in the scene. Generally, your scene partner will also be fighting for something against whatever you are fighting for. The following are examples from Antigone.

Application

  1. Scene 1
    • Antigone is fighting to bury their brother (she wants Ismene's help).
    • Ismene is fighting for Antigone's safety (if Antigone buries Polyneices, she will be sentenced to death).
  2. Scene 2.1
    • Antigone is fighting to convince Creon that she is right to bury her brother.
    • Creon is fighting to convince Antigone that she is wrong to bury her brother.
  3. Scene 2.2
    • Ismene is fighting to suffer the same punishment as Antigone.
    • Antigone is fighting to save Ismene's life.
  4. Scene 3
    1. Antigone is fighting to win the people onto her side.
    2. The people are fighting to save their lives by keeping silent.

Critique Helpfulness 4/5 Finding the conflict within the scenes, lines, and relationship with my scene partner was very beneficial to creating a powerful scene. However, I did feel like some research was necessary to fully understand where the conflict was coming from. The conflict or relationship cannot be found without researching your character; it cannot be found "within the actor's feelings."
